Hunters Point Naval Shipyard

Built by the navy in WWII, used extensively for ship building, radiation contamination cleanup and research in the post-WWII nuclear era, and other military purposes; largely abandoned in 1970s; now a significantly contaminated with toxic and possibly radioactive waste Superfund site with $300 million cleanup tag - San Francisco's Own Ghost Town.
